ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and accuracy of a radiographic analysis method for the location of mini-implants inserted in the posterior region of the maxilla. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two self-drilling mini-implants were installed between the second premolar and the first molar on the right side and left side in three dry skulls. Three operators performed three occlusal radiographs, using an occlusal x-ray film holder, at three different times in each of the three skulls. RESULTS: The interclass correlation coefficient showed a significantly high, positive correlation (p<0.05), indicating an excellent reliability between operators. The analysis of variance showed no significant differences in time and among the operators. CONCLUSION: Based of these findings, it may be concluded that this methodology can be used by several operators in longitudinal clinical studies on orthodontic mini-implants at the anterior-posterior and lateral-medial locations or longitudinal displacement.

Os mini-implantes tornaram-se um dispositivo de ancoragem bastante difundido e empregado na Ortodontia atual. A eficácia do mini-implante deve-se principalmente a sua estabilidade primária, portanto, é de interesse para os ortodontistas o entendimento sobreos fatores que influenciam a estabilidade. Este artigo apresenta uma revisão da literatura em banco de dados, tendo como critérios de inclusão artigos publicados sobre os fatoresrelacionados à estabilidade do mini-implante realizados, em humanos e animais. Foram selecionados artigos evidenciando uma série de fatores relacionados com a estabilidade,contudo sem ocorrer uma concordância entre os autores abrangendo todos os fatores. Os fatores da estabilidade dos mini-implantes apresentam-se descritos na literatura com pouco detalhamento científico, incorrendo, na maioria dos trabalhos, como apenas observaçõesclínicas. Porém, estes fatores da estabilidade podem ser classificados em relação ao parafuso, ao profissional e ao paciente.
The mini-implant has become a device for anchorage quite widespread andcurrent employee in Orthodontics. The effectiveness of mini-implant is mostly due for its stability primary, however is important to understand about factors that influence the stability. This article presents a review of literature in the database, and as a criterion for inclusion in articles published on the factors related to the stability of mini-implant carried out on humans and animais. The articles was selected according selection criteria related to stability, Thefactors of mini-implants stability have been described in the literature with scattered scientific information, most of them just as clinical observations. However, these factors of stabilitycan be classified in relation to screw, professional and patient.
